Escape the cold weather and chill winds with our favorite warming hacks this week on Wellness Wednesday:
Think Hot and Spicy (Tea) Many of us turn straight to a warm beverage when we're feeling the shivers come on, and for good reason. The body contains the most warmth in the midsection, extending outward when it has the energy. This is why our extremities feel coldest most often. Before you brew that next cup of tea, go for a spicy blend of warming herbs: cinnamon, cayenne, cocoa, cardamom, clove, licorice. These teas will actively improve your circulation, making temperature regulation much easier on you. A mulled spice cider is another great option! Many tea companies have spiced chocolate tea that contains small amounts of caffeine to encourage blood flow and alertness, raising your body temperature in the process. |
Go Play (Get Active)! One of the last things we want to do when we're cold is to get outside - where it's even colder! However, by taking the dog for a walk or throwing the frisbee around, the circulatory system is working hard to pump blood to every muscle group and extremity to stay productive. This healthy burst of activity will strengthen your body's capability to endure cold weather and promote resiliency the next time you step outside. Roll Out Your Yoga Mat Feeling nippy?
