This week on Wellness Wednesday, we'll turn drama on its head, examining the reasons why we feel stress from drama that may not even be personal! From there, we'll find 3 ways to easily remedy the effects of chronic stress and low level drama that everyone faces.
Ignorance is (not) bliss.
Often, when one is faced with a stressful situation, the natural reaction is to ignore it. You may see the headlines talking about the impact that red cups are having on communities across the country and move right past it. The danger in not acknowledging your personal feelings will fester underneath the surface.
Ignorance starves a curious mind, while a willingness to learn feeds it. Examine your own reactions to different news and respectfully give your opinions a chance to present themselves. Journal privately, learn more about the story itself, and ask friends and family for their opinions. By listening, and not judging, you create a space for compassionate understanding. This is the quickest way to dissolve the dangers of ignorance.
Learn about yourself.
For most of us, the most stressful dramatic situations are because deep down, we've been there before. For example, if it's a friend's infidelity drama that is bothering you, see how you may have cheated in areas of your life. It is not just about infidelity: cheating on tests in school, or being deceitful to those you love are a few examples.
As we forgive these parts of ourselves, the emotional stress will fade. Understanding that we're all capable of experiencing negative actions and learning from them, you are able to be a source of support for friends and loved ones. No longer will your personal filters keep you from genuine connections.
In situations of stress, one of the biggest sources of additional tension comes from a lack of control. Genocide, cruelty, and other large scale issues can feel soul crushing. However, by turning toward what you are able to control, the feelings of stress are able to melt away.
The next time you're experiencing stress because of a problem outside of your reach, turn to your community. Friends, neighbors, family, and those around you are ready to experience the beauty that you have to offer! Share loving words of kindness, send a card, meet for coffee, plan a relaxing day out. We guarantee you will feel better instantly.
