Ask.. for what you want.
We all start somewhere-- for success, clearly defining your finish line will provide the structure you need to begin the process. Begin with a general idea, or visual, to expand on. From your inspiration, condense the most important aspects of where you see yourself in success mode.
Choose 3 detailed parameters to finalize your finish line; for some, this means writing out a number or measurement, a duration or frequency, or even a physical item.
For example, your finish line may be “establishing a consistent Vinyasa yoga practice 4 days a week with one weekend day.” This creates details that will steady your gaze on what you’re looking forward to.
Surrender.. to the reality of your situation.
Many of us skip the most important step of achieving success: accepting that we have a starting point. You may enjoy the process of discovering where you’d like to be, and by reflecting on how your beginning impacted your decision will only further motivate you.
Write out your story; flesh out the meaning behind how and why you’re starting from this place. Perhaps you have tried this same goal in the past and learned from a mistake or two. Share your fears, your hopes, and your worries in the story.
From here, you can truly step into your success without a single thing weighing you down
Assess.. what you’d like to achieve. Let’s get a little real; we can plan for success and even take a few steps toward our goal. That is the easy part for most. Taking the time to honestly discuss what your goal requires is like planning for a camping trip. If you forget to check your backpacks, you may forget a crucial item like flint or water. Once you’ve arrived to your campsite, you will be at an extreme disadvantage. Taking your outline from your ASK, create your checklist of duties, assignments and exercises that will ensure you wake up everyday with exactly what you need to support yourself during this time. |
We all need a little pep talk now and again. You have successfully created the tough checklist of items and opened your heart to your hesitations and fears about your journey.
Now is the time to NURTURE-- encouragement and support are crucial for long term success. Find a friend, family member, or loved one that will be your cheerleader. Get creative by crafting a vision board or drawing a self-portrait of your finish line success. As silly as it may sound, these small tokens of inspiration during your process will be there to remind you just why you started.
Adjust.. as you go.
Life constantly reminds us that just when we’re getting comfortable, something will change. Inevitably, every plan must be evaluated and adjusted at some point. Take inspiration from adjustments in class and imprint them on your life.
