When was the last time you felt truly honored by an act of gratitude from another person in your life? It feels like a blessing from the universe! Each and every one of us has talents, gifts, and unique perspectives to change the world and bring knowledge to others. Finding a moment to extend a genuine gift to someone else does more than uplift their day-- it reinforces their sense of self.
SO, YOU WANT TO GIVE BACK TO YOUR __________. NOW WHAT?
COMMUNITY
Volunteering is a common option for those looking to connect with their community and spend time with like minded individuals to achieve a goal or make a message more visible. Non-profit organizations all over the world spend everyday working toward their mission of giving back to a community they are passionate about. You can join a local group through Meetup.com or VolunteerMatch.org to find your perfect fit and join in activities to make memories as you’re making a difference!
Earth Corps is always looking for drop-in volunteers at clean up events to ensure our environment stays beautiful and clean for decades to come!
FAMILY We often say “I love you” and “thank you” to our immediate family members all of the time; giving gifts at holidays, birthdays and sharing special moments with them throughout our lives. We may not immediately think to give back to them when we already spend time doing so! By changing it up and adding a random act of family to the mix, you will empower and uplift your family in incredible ways! Make a card or write a silly note to your family members, focusing on special moments you two have shared (no matter how long ago!) with your favorite accomplishments that they have achieved so far. You can even share moments that you were especially proud to call them your mom/dad/sister/brother. Add a personal touch with an inside joke or two, and send the message their way! An e-mail, greeting card, text message, or phone call are all equally special and impactful. You may even be surprised to get your own message of gratitude in response! |
Coworkers can be cause for many an emotion in the workplace. No matter how stressful, sharing positive messages with those around you during the week can have a drastic influence on not just their mood, but the overall energy of the entire team. Sharing one piece of positive feedback or comment with others can negate up to 5 negative interactions that person has had, according to Dr. John Gottman, relationship expert and researcher from the University of Washington.
Send quick notes to your coworker’s desk with a compliment or “congratulations!” when they’ve finished a project or impressed the team that day. Host a donut social by bringing in a box of fresh, local treats for everyone to share, focusing on the impactful progress that you’ve seen by others at work.
If you can, host a gratitude meeting once a quarter with your coworkers to discuss only positive successes by each employee. This makes a perfect longstanding source of happiness among your team! Suggest it to a manager or your direct report to establish this if necessary.
