In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Spring is the season to detoxify the mind, body, and spirit. We've accumulated an incredible amount of energy through the Winter season, and the blossoming flowers remind us to release and transform right alongside them. Detoxification wears many masks, creating opportunities for everyone to try their own unique releasing ceremonies. Today, we’re sharing our 3 favorite bohemian takes on a natural detoxification that your body will thank you for!
Traditional Chinese Medicine | Chrysanthemum
We’re loving this beautiful, bright blossom for a gentle detoxification! TCM uses chrysanthemum flower extensively in teas, brews, and tonics to encourage the flow of qi in Spring time.
- Order organic, dried chrysanthemum and brew a loose leaf tea. A 10 minute brew time is ideal for medicinal teas.
- Go local: Choose organic teas that contain chrysanthemum to gain the benefits!
Ayurvedic Medicine | Light Energy
Shake off the weight of kapha energy in Winter, and welcome Spring with some simple Ayurvedic tips to encourage the body’s natural rhythm of release during this season:
Enjoy citrus juices, fresh pressed with the natural fiber when available.
Consistent physical movement ushers the slow-moving kapha out of your body.
Herbal Pharmacology | Olive Leaf, Nettle, and Cilantro
There are dozens of beneficial herbs to cleanse and strengthen the body for Spring-- however, olive leaf and nettle are two powerful herbs that work together to enhance the detoxification communication between internal organs.
- Add fresh cilantro to rice dishes as a garnish. Enjoy for a natural metal detoxification.
- Olive Leaf herbal capsules or tinctures will allow the body to expand the blood vessels, preventing arterial build up and increased blood flow.
- Nettle is a gentle diuretic, encouraging the kidneys to release buildup and increase urination.
Moving forward into a new season, it’s also important to reflect on where we’d like to go in the next 3 months. Enjoy a journaling session with a cup of your favorite tea or coffee and express what’s deep within your heart. Share your wildest dreams, goals, and ambitions with the paper-- without any hesitation!
