Yoga with JaneClick the buttons below to explore the opportunities to work with Jane. | Welcome back to the monthly teacher highlight at the Roswell Yoga Life blog! This month, we're featuring our favorite courageous, driven, and supportive instructor at the studio-- Jane Pope! Read our fun and insightful interview to learn more about how Jane contributes her unique energy and compassion in the Roswell community, and in our studio classes! Tell me a little bit about your yoga journey from the beginning. I started my practice 16 years ago. The changes in my physical strength, flexibility and balance were profound, but the real change began occurring within. I discovered the connection between pushing my edge physically and conversely being able to surrender in my asana practice. The shift that was occurring on my mat transferred into my daily life and a door opened in my mind and heart that I had not experienced before. Yoga became an integral part of my life, transforming me from the inside out. My practice has sustained me in the most challenging times in my life, always reminding me to be present in this moment because this moment is all we have-- and it to will pass! What's it like to be a part of the RYL community? I love getting to know our members and sharing the many benefits of yoga with them. The bonus? It's a pleasure to be a member of a team that reflects a united passion and love for yoga and appreciates the gift of sharing this practice with our community! Did you ever see yourself teaching yoga when you started practicing? The thought did cross my mind on occasion but fear sabotaged it. The voice in my head told me, “you can’t do that… you’re not good enough!" When did you know that you were called to teach? The light bulb went off in August 2012; lying in savasana, dripping sweat with tears in my eyes. What does yoga mean to you? Balance, clarity, strength and peace. What is the most magical thing about yoga? It’s never the same and I have never hit a plateau in my practice. There is always a place I can go to challenge myself or let go whether it be physically or mentally. Why do people especially need yoga in their lives? Yoga nourishes the mind, body and spirit. Who doesn't need that! This month we're offering more variety for our students, in the form of a "Yogic Journey." What forms of yoga have you tried that pleasantly surprised you? What styles of yoga do you wish to explore? Meditation and Yin Yoga are two things I never saw myself doing because I didn't recognize the benefits of either practice. I was all about the Yang: heated rooms, challenging standing and balancing asanas, pushing my edge physically. Never say never. I now make a yin a part of my practice every week and it is one of my favorite formats to teach! Meditation is a game changer for me as well-- if you have never tried it, do [it]! Start out with small increments of time and build from there. I promise you that one day, 30 minutes will go by and you’ll [think], "WOW!" What is your favorite music to practice to, and why? I enjoy classical or anything instrumental because it is beautiful to listen to (I’m not distracted by vocals). . What 3 words would describe your life outside of your yoga practice? Adventurous, energetic and caring. What is your greatest guilty pleasure? Dark chocolate. Anything your students ought to know about you? Life is short and I always remind myself not to take myself too seriously. |
