Yoga w/ ReannaClick the buttons below to explore the opportunities to work with Reannna. | Happy December from Roswell Yoga Life! Each month we’re featuring an in-depth interview with one of our many dynamic and engaging yoga teachers to learn more about why they teach yoga and who they are on the inside and out! This month, we’re featuring our hip and funky teacher Reanna Knotts! Her passion for music combined with self-love and a supportive nature make us very proud to have her in our RYL family! We even got to learn what her guilty pleasure is, and it’s not Knotts Berry Jam! :) Check out the exclusive interview we had with Reanna below: Tell me a little bit about your yoga journey from the beginning. My first experience on a yoga mat was in 2010 with Othene Munson and realized quickly that this was something I thoroughly enjoyed. Battling addiction and depression, I dove deeper into a physical practice and was lucky enough to stumble upon a new studio in 2011 located in Marietta. My journey was mainly for a physical release, until I realized this was my therapy and anti-depressant. My 2012 goal was to finish teacher training, along with being free from anti-depressants and substance abuse. Every story starts with taking the first step to change! What's it like to be a part of the RYL community? RYL community has brought me closer to my practice and deeper in my teachings. The energy between the students and teachers can only be described as a true, authentic home. I love walking onto the mat and feeling a strong sense of support and friendship. I am forever thankful and am exactly where I’m meant to be. Did you ever see yourself teaching yoga when you started practicing? I never thought I would be good at teaching; especially something that involved moving the mind, body and a spirit/soul. I was scared to death to teach and could never imagine guiding someone through a yoga class! When did you know that you were called to teach? When I was placed in a situation where "NO" was not an option. I was helping a friend out and was the only one available at the last minute. I remember closing my eyes during most of the class, trying to visualize my rough, scrambled out class. I looked right through all the students and had music and lighting difficulties due to loud thunder outside! I confused “rights” with “lefts” and hips with head, and was energetically destroyed after class. I received two messages after class from two students that explained what they loved! It was the raw and authentic response that changed my view point on how I perceived my first class. I decided that this was exactly where I was meant to be. I’m forever grateful for the subbing opportunity and the two students who expressed their truth and feedback. What does yoga mean to you? Yoga is bringing awareness to your mind, body and soul. It's the place I go to find my best self. Yoga is who I was, who I am, and who I will become. What is the most magical thing about yoga? The most magical thing about yoga would be that it's not “one size fits all.” It's not about your flexibility or if you’re skinny or overweight. Everyone can do yoga. You just have to make it to the mat to discover your journey. Why do people especially need yoga in their lives? It’s accessible anywhere you go! Whether it's pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation, asana (physical practice) or the spiritual aspects, you can do it anywhere. All you need is a car for yourself and an awareness of what you need for that day, whether meditation or a physical practice. What is your favorite music to practice to, and why? I love to practice to electronic/dubstep style music. I love flowing to the rhythm of the music and my breath. I like to be triggered and challenged while having fun with a light-hearted yoga practice. What 3 words would describe your life outside of your yoga practice? Fulfilling, Random, and Intriguing What is your greatest guilty pleasure? Chocolate chip cookies. Anything your students ought to know about you? The teacher in me honors the teacher in you! I'm a forever student. |
